Hey mate what's your take on the whole debate on the embodied energy / energy payback for PV?
I know it has a lot to do with whether you're using virgin or recycled silicon, but I've seen energy payback estimates of 1-20 years and I'm sure the new manufacturing methods and class of module have moved things along too.
Hi mate. It is normally said that typically a mono panel will pay itself back in 3 yrs and poly in 2 yrs. Other things to consider are where they are manufactured and transported to. At the moment, I think one of the best panels for emboddied energy for use in the UK is Sharp poly manufactured over in Wales.
Hi Dr.Holland. Most of the manufacturers quote 2-4 yrs for poly and 3-5yrs for mono. SHARP panels made in Wales tend to be both good for our economy and minimising transport CO2.
